When will registration forms for the 2014 Convention be available?
The registration form is usually created in early September and is distributed in October. You can obtain the form here online once it becomes available, or see your group secretary. The event fills rapidly, so be sure to send it in promptly to insure your confirmation.
Will the registration fee increase?
The registration fee for the 2014 Convention will be $22.00
Why not have the Convention at a larger venue?
The event is held in Newport annually due to prefrence and flexable accomidations. Our Hospitality Center would not exist as it does presently at another venue, and would be extremely expensive to operate. It is a spring event, and Newport provides satisfactorily to most folks. Larger venues continue to be discussed, however.
What is the maximum attendance?
The Hyatt has to comply with the State and City fire codes which limits an 860 capacity for the Grand Ballroom, however, we can register 340 more registrants to view speaker meetings via closed circuit tv in adjacent rooms.
Who decides on speaker selection?
The Convention Committee has subcommittes, ie speakers, greeters, registration, decorations, and hospitality. The Speaker subcommittee solicits and listens to speakers on tape or cd's and decides on that basis.
Can I attend Marathon Meetings without a registration?
Marathon Meetings are open AA meetings, and as such is open to all. Attendance to speaker and other events in the Grand Ballroom is limited to people with registration badges.
Do I have to chair a subcommittee in order to participate in the Convention?
No, in fact, help is appreciated in all of the subcommitties, and it is a very fulfilling accomplishment to participate in the planning, and operations of the Convention. See front page for more information.
Can I register for the Convention and pay online?
Currently electronic registration is not feasible at this time. We are looking into the prospect for the future.
Will parking be a problem with increased attendance?
There will be extended parking at the Newport Visitor's Center with shuttle service to and from the hotel.
